Sri Guru Har Rai Ji

Guru Har Rai was born on 26th February 1630.  He was the second son of Baba Gurditta, and the grandson of Guru Hargobind Ji.  Guru Har Rai was only fourteen years old, when he sat on the “Gur Gaddi”.

Guru Har Rai Ji had great physical strength and was extremely good at martial arts.   He hunted animals, but preferred not to kill them, but to keep them in his garden.  He grew herbs and was always helping the poor and the needy.   He establishes a big health clinic at Kirtarpur and maintained a large amount of herbal stock.

During the period of Guru Har Rai Ji, Shahjahan was the Mughal Emperor.  He had a son, (Dara Shikon) who was very seriously ill.  No one could cure his son’s illness.  Even the best Hakims were called, but there was no improvement.  Shanjahan wrote a letter to Guru Har Rai about his son being sick and the remedy to cure his son was in Guru’s hand.  He asked Guru to give the remedy and pray for his son.

Guru Har Rai sent the necessary medicine to Shahjahan for the recovery of his son Dara Shikon.  Dara Recovered from his illness and the Emperor vowed to Guru that he would never cause any harm to the Guru’s people.

Guru Har Rai maintained the concept of Miri and Piri and was keeping an armed regiment of 2100 Saint Soldiers.

Once the Guru was summoned to the Mughal court.  Guru sent Ram Rai, his son to the court instead of him.  Ram Rai was asked to explain a verse of Guru Nank, found in the Guru Granth Sahib.  Ram Rai answered all the questions in a polite manner and showed lot of Mircles, but he skipped by his fathers advice when he changed the word “Musalman” to Beiman (faithless).

Hearing the reports from Sikhs of Delhi, Guru Har Rai was very upset.  He felt his own son did not have the courage to tell the truth.  His son’s failure to stand by the words of Guru Nanak and the text of the Adi Granth Sahib.  Guru Har Rai Ji said, “The Guruship is like a tiger’s milk, which can only be contained in a golden cup.  Only who is ready to devote his life there to is worth of it.  Now Ram Rai shall never see my face again.

Guru Har Rai, was a man of great Charity and Generosity.  He was a man of Peace and Love.
