Ardas,
supplication and recollection, is the ritual Prayer
which Sikhs, individually or in congregation, recite
morning and evening and in fact whenever they perform
a Religious service, at the beginning and conclusion
of family, public or Religious functions. The Sikh
Ardas is rendered to God Almighty in supplicatory
mood standing in front of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib
Ji or, where the Guru Sahib Ji is not present, standing
in a similarly reverential posture. Sikhs are directed
to share their Joys and Sorrows with God through
the "Ardas". |
|
| The
first part of Ardas composed by Sri Guru Gobind
Singh Ji invokes the blessing of God and the blessing
of the first nine Gurus. |
| The
second part recounts the achievements of the Tenth
Guru, and the events of Sikh history thereafter,
particularly the sacrifices made by the Sikhs, for
the reform of Gurdwaras and the maintenance of Sikh
tradition. |
| The
third part deals with the reciter's own feeling
and the purpose and occasion for offering the Prayer.
|
| The
fourth and the last part of the Ardas are seeking
of a humble mind and sound intellect, the success
of the Sikh community, meditation on the Holy name
and the good of entire Humanity. |
